My grandfather was in AAU last year and had been advised that he was end of life.
This was obviously a shock to myself and my family and naturally, we asked the staff member how long he had left.
They proceeded to tell us it was in Gods Hands and asked if my Grandfather had faith. I advised that, yes he did however that I did not.
They continued to tell me that God would take him when it was time, and then showed me a video of their mother blessing him whilst she was end of life.
This situation was greatly distressing, as as much as I appreciate both the staff member and my grandfather had faith, I myself did not and was looking for a more factual answer, however I appreciate a definitive timescale cannot be provided in such situations. Additionally, I felt them showing me a video of their family was also inappropriate at this time when I am focusing on my own relative.
I can imagine they offered this to show comfort, however it did the opposite.
I hope this can be relayed back to all medical staff in the hope that this does not distress any other families.
