I phoned up The Height Medical Practice. I spent 20 minutes waiting on the phone where I was supposedly at Position 1 the whole time just trying to make an appointment. For perspective, to be at position 1 in a queue for 20 minutes means either they only pay for 1 receptionist to serve the huge catchment that they cover or that they leave the phones ringing intentionally to deter people from accessing healthcare services.
When I was finally connected, the member of staff I spoke to told me that the soonest they can give me an appointment is almost 3 weeks later.
Which working person has 20 minutes available to sit idly on the phone in the middle of a work day only to be told they can't get an appointment for 3 weeks?
I have raised a complaint to the Care Quality Commission to update their rating of Outstanding which was given in 2017, because I believe it is extremely out of date. The services seems to be intentionally designed to be inaccessible for patients. How many patients have to choose between working and between accessing healthcare?
In my view, this organisation is negligent in the delivery of accessible healthcare to the general public and although the level of care received by those who manage to get appointments may possible have been outstanding at one point, the hundreds of people if not thousands that cannot access services remain without access to services that they pay for with our national insurance and taxes. Would the public be right to start questioning the integrity of their spend on such?
I have spent years giving up on getting appointments when I needed them because they are just impossible to get in any straightforward manner.
What do these services get their funding to do if not to be accessible when they are needed?
Then people wonder why so many people turn to the emergency services for help with what could be trivial concerns.
This treatment is beyond acceptable and I believe denial of access to services should absolutely be a metric that is measured independently to ensure these private organisations do not receive funding for failing to deliver good quality healthcare services.
