"Nothing was too much to ask"

About: Borders General Hospital / Maternity care

(as the patient),

I was admitted to ward 16 In early stages labour with hight blood pressure and preeclampsia. Only negative I have was that there is nowhere for partners to stay when we live 40 minutes away and he was sent home and I was kept in. 45 minutes after he left I needed to phone him to come back as the labour progressed. Thankfully I had family nearby willing to let him stay. It’s just a shame there is nowhere for them to stay I do understand their reasons but did not help with my medical condition.

The midwives that supported me through my labour and delivery were absolutely amazing keeping myself and husband calm. All very knowledgeable. Nothing was too much to ask and guided us through the process for the safe arrival of our wee boy.

On to the positives. The care and support given by all members of staff was amazing. Going through an extremely stressful time with my health was made easier by the genuine compassion shown by the staff to myself my husband and my new baby boy.

Having gone home and needing to return to the hospital once again the staff were always there to lend a hand and listen to all my worries and concerns .
I can’t thank you all enough for the support.

Dear Tweed318,

Thank you so much for taking the time to share your experience with us. We’re truly sorry to hear that the lack of partner accommodation added stress during what was already a challenging time for you. We understand how important it is to have your partner close by, especially when living some distance from the hospital, and we appreciate you highlighting this.

We are incredibly pleased to hear that you felt supported and cared for by our team throughout your labour, delivery, and follow-up care. Your kind words about the midwives and staff mean a great deal to us, and we’ll be sure to pass on your thanks to everyone involved in your care.

Congratulations on the safe arrival of your baby boy! We wish you and your family all the very best.
