"My care was world class"

About: Cardiac surgery / Cardiac High Dependency Unit Cardiac surgery / Cardiac Intensive Care Unit Cardiac surgery / Ward 5A, Cardiac Surgery & Thoracic Surgery Cardiology / Ward 5B Whiteabbey Hospital / Cardiac Rehabilitation

(as a service user),

Everything involved in my care could only be described as World Class ranging from the initial Consultation through the stress tests, the Angiogram, surgery, pacemaker and Cardio Rehab

Firstly the professionalism and strength shown by Dr Murphy to identify and understand the issue  carrying out the angiogram and recommending surgery gave the comfort and reassurance needed

On the recommendation of surgery I went under the care of Mr Ahmed, it can only be said his skills and care are second to none as he went the extra mile  even calling in to see patients on his day off. The surgical team were incredible and follow up each day in hospital was excellent , a mention to Dr Durkan (my GPs daughter) who fitted the pacing wire and carried out initial checks

I was in CSICU/HDU for a week and again the care of the doctors and especially the nurses was world leading, this was evident when I did take a turn for the worse and the response was instant and professional. A special mention needs to go to Dr Graham who was amazing making sure pain was under control and correct care given and Dr Rick who came in the early hours to check when I again took a turn for the worse

The recovery from the bypass surgery was going well but it became clear there was another issue with the heart resulting in a pacemaker to be fitted, once again the world class skills of Dr McNeilly, Dr McKeag and all the staff in Cath Lab was incredible,

I was in the hospital for a further three weeks and I cannot praise the staff, in Ward 5A and for s time in 5B, enough for the care and their focus on continuing improvement. This is a small thing but when I was there they wanted to find how they could serve the food better, one nurse was tasked and she came up with a new simple procedure the it was the nurses who made sure patients go their food not the orderlies, this ensured patients did not get food they were allergic to, this was impressive. Even the porters were great  and happy to chat

Special thanks has to go to Cardiac rehab team in Whiteabbey Hospital, Nurses Roisin and Anne who delivered the rehab course and arranged the gym at Ballyearl, this course was excellent and very informative. I am still attending the gym classes with Alan from Ballyearl who does a great job.

The surgical review was also really informative and made sure all questions and concerns were answered

My care was world class and I would not have one complaint about my care or attitude of the staff.

I was asked while in hospital about the Doctors attitude, all I can say was this was for me it was perfect, they were strong, knew what they were doing, courteous and made sure I got the correct care (especially when I needed pain relief) for the detail and full understanding the nurses then took over and were able to go through everything, Nurses were brilliant

Can I congratulate everyone at the Royal and Northern Trust and thank them for my exceptional care
