"Clunky system and signposting for baby Immunisations"

About: Fife Community Services / Immunisation Service

(as a parent/guardian),

Lots of organisational issues here.

1. Appointments sent out late and needing to be rearranged in our case because it was around school pickup time and we have other children. The short notice appointments have been commented on by other Mums and Health Visitors so not just us.

2. Lynebank has signs for a Vaccination and Immunisation centre. But this is not where baby immunisations take place. Staff member here and immunisation nurse commented that lots of parents make this mistake so why has signposting not been corrected? The journey between the two is further from the car park and not buggy friendly. This needs to be signposted properly.

3. On arrival at correct building receptionist told us to take a seat. We sat at the bucket seats outside reception as directed but another Mum on her way out told us we should go to the seats outside the immunisation room (we had no idea where this was). We are thankful to this other Mum as the nurse had just assumed we weren’t coming and scored our son off the list incorrectly stating that he had only had his last immunisations 2 weeks prior.  This meant an unnecessary 20 min wait for appointment.

The appointment then went ahead as planned and we await the next appointment in the post to see if it is suitable and at our nearest centre or if we have to rearrange at short notice and make a longer journey given the time bound nature of immunisation.

Dear Busybabymum,

Thank you for posting on care opinion and providing feedback regarding your experience at your child’s immunisation appointment. I am so sorry that this appointment didn’t run smoothly and that you encountered these problems. As lead nurse I read all feedback good or bad and would be grateful if you could call me in order that I can speak to you personally to discuss the points you have raised. If we could have a chat I can take these issues back to the teams and raise awareness, in order that we can learn from your experiences. I would be pleased if you could call me on 07813 724368.
