My son was discharged from hospital after surgery and, thankfully, he is doing well. However, he was not given any medication on discharge. When I asked about paracetamol (based on his weight), the nurse explained they were not allowed to provide it and advised us to go to our local pharmacy.
At the pharmacy, we were told the same and advised to contact our GP. Since the surgery was closed, we phoned 111. The first thing they said was that it was s a bit strange to be discharged with no medication. They then contacted ward 3B, who said the ward would call us back.
When the ward phoned me, they asked me to explain the whole story again and then told us to bring my son back to A&E to be weighed, since he is under 4kg. My husband had to take him back at midnight to A&E.
Thankfully, the surgery itself went very well and the staff were supportive throughout. What I don’t understand is why this happened in the first place, especially as he is such a young baby and should not be neglected in any way.
