"Pointed us in the right direction"

About: Family Support Hubs / Family Support Hub - Hamilton

(as a parent/guardian),

Myself & My daughter were allocated Vikki from the family support hub in burnbank, at the time my daughter was going through a really difficult time in life, she was a teenager doing teenage things trying to fit in with peers getting involved in risky situations that the police had to be involved and sometimes it  just got too overwhelming for myself to deal with as I suffer myself with low mood & anxiety.

My daughter was waiting to be diagnosed with Autism & ADHD. She was a school refuser and also her mental health had taken a blip and as a mum I was overly worried and anxious because my daughter wouldn’t attend school, having to deal with this heavy strain alone.

Vikki was amazing and she was our go to person and will always hold a special place in our hearts. Vikki always reassured me that I was doing a brilliant job as a mum as sometimes that’s all we need to hear to make us feel better. Vikki was always true to her word and was always there with a listening ear, always looking for other services that would benefit myself & my daughter. I always felt vikki’s voice was heard when other professionals were involved, she was always giving that extra push when it came to other agencies that had to get involved as I felt I was just the overly protective mum and wasn’t getting the help and support my family needed.

Few years have passed now and my daughter has her diagnosis and attends CAMHS regular and is receiving the support she needs and we are now in a much happier place now than when we were before we were allocated Vikki. Vikki even got myself the help and support I needed (counselling) also as sometimes we get so caught up in life looking after everyone else we forget too look after ourselves.

I remember back when I received my first call from the hub saying that they wanted to visit and they explained  who they were and what their role was and I felt like a failure, I felt like I had failed my daughter as a mum, but I can honestly say we were a very lucky family to have been allocated Vikki as she’s a earth angel and I don’t think me & my daughter would be where we are today.

I can’t thank her enough for all her support and pointing us in the right direction. Forever Grateful ☺️

Dear KMC13

Thank you for your Care Opinion response in respect of you and your daughter.

It was much appreciated that you took the time to talk about some of the difficult times you both experienced within the community and home. I was heartened that you found Vikki's time spent with you and your daughter to have been of benefit, in you tacking some of these issues - to the extent that she holds such a special place in your hearts. That sometimes simply being there, simply listening was just what you wanted and just what you needed.

Hearing that you have grown and developed your bond as mother and daughter over these past few years was so inspiring - and that finding time for yourselves and not just others to be so important - and so true.

Vikki was very appreciative of your description of her as an earth angel and it really helps validate the time that she - and her colleagues across the Hubs - spend with the people we meet; getting to know you as a family and as individuals and helping both and your daughter in becoming who you are today and aspire to be in the future.

Thank you again.
