"Hand operation"

About: University Hospital Monklands / Emergency Department University Hospital Wishaw / Emergency Department University Hospital Wishaw / Trauma and Orthopaedics (14- 16)

(as the patient),

Caught my hand in the blender while making soup and cut the tendon in my forefinger.

Went to Monklands  A&E at 2 o clock, sent to Wishaw at 6 o clock, got home to cumbernauld at 11.30. Back on the Friday to get it operated on ,there all day and sent home at 5 o clock without getting operation. Doctors very apologetic. Closed on Saturday but got a call to go in on the Sunday morning.

Had operation ,local anaesthetic and got out in afternoon.

All went well .I have the highest praise for the staff nurse on the orthopaedic ward and all the surgeons, anaesthetists and nurses in theatre. They were so caring and kept me calm.

The problem in all of this was the waiting in A&E both at monklands and wishaw, then getting sent home to come back two days later. Very stressful.

Hopefully this is something that can be addressed. Staff we're wonderful.

Dear Lucdn54,

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback with us on your recent admission to hospital.

I am glad to hear that your experience was calming and caring. We will ensure the nurses on Orthopaedic ward, anaesthetic staff and theatre staff receive your feedback.

It is however very difficult when you are prepared for theatre and then are cancelled. Unfortunately, due to the unpredicatble nature of trauma emergencies we do prepare patients for the possibility that there may be a risk of cases being cancelled. To help us understand your situation more, we would welcome you to contact our patient affairs team on 01698 752800 or email patientaffairs@lanarskhire.scot.nhs.uk

Thank you again for your feedback,

Take care,

Kind Regards

Corinne

Update posted by Lucdn54 (the patient)

I do know there was a chance that I wouldn't be seen in day, surgery and that was explained to me by staff.

They also apologised for this happening. I have no problems with that.

I was just stating that the length of wait from the Thursday to the Sunday was stressful.

Into monklands A and E around 2pm Thursday, home from Wishaw A and E at midnight. Then into Wishaw day surgery all day Friday then taken on Sunday, for which I was very grateful as the doctors got me in soon as was possible.

Looking back it was the length of time in both A and Es which was the worst thing and I'm not quite sure what can be done about that if anything.

Again though I have no criticism of staff in A and E.
