She passed away. I’m glad it’s all over. My heart is broken and I miss her. I know she is at peace now, no more suffering. She had a fall in march, taken to hospital. Had ct scans and others, found lesions on liver & lung with fractured wrist. Fractured wrist was never followed up. In for a week, sent home with further investigation (never saw a specialist).
On returning home continually in pain, constipation, diarrhoea and sickness. Every day from then until she passed. She was admitted again to hospital with uncontrollable pain, came home for 2 days and had to return to hospital for a bleed. Through these months I’ve been by her side. I’ve witnessed the lack of treatment, care & empathy that has been given to my mom. I also witnessed it with other patients. It was concerning.
Mom left Worcester hospital to Tenbury hospital for rehabilitation as I was told, try to get back on her feet. Being there a few days a sister called me to one side. Asking me what my understanding of why mom was there for. To my devastation it was for end of life. Nobody had told us.
Arrangements were made for her to come home at my house. I was scared from my experiences with mom since march. When mom came home the district nurses and palliative care nurse came. I was on guard. I can’t express fully how they were outstanding. They were caring with empathy every problem that arose they were on it. Day and night they were attending to my mom, didn’t matter which one that came out she had same level of care.
Information was valuable, each nurse knew what was going on also me and mom was included. At last she got the care she deserved and the support I needed. The team that had cared for mom should be put up for example of how it should be done to hospital nurses and doctors. These nurses I can’t thank enough, that’s how it should be done
