"Patience, tolerance and knowledge"

About: Crosshouse Hospital / Endocrinology and Diabetes

(as the patient),

Was unsure why I was given this appointment - See later**.  After  a difficult start, the Nurse and I had a general discussion (not scheduled), on how and what I was doing, how sometimes the diabetic daily diary does not tell the whole story, and a host of other, reassuring information. She took the time to recognize my other ailments and their possible interaction with Diabetes. She took a further step to speak with my related consultants (with my permission) to investigate possible connections. Great initiative.

Later**. This was a 3 hour return trip, early morning and immediately post prandial/insulin, to tell me something I had already been told just a few weeks earlier. Simply a like for like change of Insulin. We concluded that this appointment was unnecessary and could have been done by letter or text/email.. Fortunately we were both able to make use of this time as above.

The Specialist Nurse is be congratulated on her patience, tolerance and knowledge.

Dear bmc875

Please accept my apologies for the length of time it has taken me to reply to you and thank you for taking the time and trouble to share this lovely feedback about the care provided by the Diabetes Service at University Hospital Crosshouse.

I am sorry that you had a 3 hour round trip in the early morning for an appointment that was unnecessary and which could have been done by letter or text. However, I’m glad that you were able to use this opportunity to work with the Specialist Nurse to investigate how your other ailments might be interacting with your diabetes.

I will share your kind comments with the wider Diabetes Team so the specialist nurse who saw you knows that you appreciate her patience, tolerance and knowledge.

Please accept my best wishes and thank you once again for taking the time to acknowledge your care experience.

Kind Regards

Pamela
