About: Raigmore Hospital / Accident & Emergency

(as the patient),

I attended accident and emergency after a fall and excruciating pain.

I was grateful for being seen quite quickly and the Doctor who assessed me was very kind, efficient and explained the procedures she was intending to instigate; x-ray which was inconclusive followed by CT scan to determine if hairline fracture was not picked up by x-ray and prescribed pain relief.

I was not given pain relief until after the procedure of x-ray, which exacerbated my pain and was very uncomfortable 3hrs after going into cubicles.

During my 5hours in the dept. I was not offered hydration neither water or tea or anything to eat eg. a sandwich,  nor the opportunity to use lavatory.

Staff were constantly walking past and looking in without so much as a smile never mind asking if I was okay or in need of anything and were all mostly hanging around the nurses station chatting and laughing.

Thankfully when the shift had changed over a very pleasant nurse introduced himself and was kind in acknowledging my pain and was very gentle and caring in assisting me onto and off CT trolly, the doctor who attended me at the time of discharging me was very aware of my dignity and fully explained her findings.
