About: Royal Victoria Hospital / Accident & Emergency

(as a relative),

I have been waiting some time as my adult daughter has received wonderful attention and care but as I sit I see people in pain not feeling well and the notice says do not lie down on chairs The chairs are not very comfortable and some of these clients would benefit from proper rest while they wait for their care. Thanks

Thank you for sharing your experience. I’m John Barron, Service Manager for Adult Urgent & Emergency Care at Belfast Trust, and I’m glad to hear your daughter received such attentive care during her visit to the Royal Victoria Hospital Emergency Department.

I also appreciate your feedback regarding the waiting area. I understand that the current seating arrangements may not always be comfortable, particularly for patients in pain. We strive to provide a safe and clean environment and work hard to manage pain effectively, ensuring that patients are supported as best as we can during their time in the department. Like many parts of the Health & Social Care system, the Emergency Department can be under significant pressure at times, and we’re not always able to place patients in the most comfortable areas, which can affect pain management.

I will ensure your comments are shared with the Emergency Department team to help guide ongoing improvements.
