I have attended Physiotherapy at Dr Grays recently with an inflamed and painful ankle and more recently foot. I have an inflammatory arthritis condition which has caused this flare up. Partly as a result of this flare up my DMARD medication has been changed, but yet has to become fully effective.
I attended Physio to try to relieve the immediate problem as pain in walking makes me less active, which is not something I can accept.
Hayley the Physio was empathetic, informative and supportive from the first appointment. She explained her assessment and listened to the outcomes I was hoping for. She arranged a referral to the Leisure Centre for a tailored fitness programme and class activity to complement what I was already doing.
Hayley understood that this flare up and my other problems could not be dealt with by medication alone, nor repeated physiotherapy. Improving my flexibility and strength would help me stay fitter and healthier. I have attended the first week of the programme which had a full range of people recovering from operations, incidents or coping with long term conditions. The class was friendly and relaxed and I was able to do what was appropriate for me, the instructor was there to advise when I needed it.
I look forward to continuing with the class, my medication taking full effect and my fitness and flexibility returning in the coming months so that I can stay active. Hayley and the Physiotherapy team working with the Leisure team make this possible.
Truly person centred care and partnership working!
