Two years ago I was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis. Initially, I was treated by my local medical practice in Seaton and Colyton, who then referred me to the RDUH rheumatology department, based in the Nightingale hospital at Sowton.
I cannot overstate the gratitude and admiration I feel towards both of these organisations in helping me through two years of considerable pain, exacerbated by the unpleasant side effects of some of the medication I have been taking. They have shown patience, kindness and professionalism throughout and made great efforts to ensure that I was kept fully informed about my condition and the treatment options available.
This applies to everyone I have encountered - receptionists, administrators, nurses, my GP, Dr. Twaddle and especially to the rheumatology consultant Dr. Haigh. At one point I had to be taken to hospital by emergency ambulance and the same comments apply to the ambulance crew and the staff at Wonford A & E department.
I believe I have been incredibly fortunate to have been looked after by the NHS staff in East Devon and Exeter and would like to say how much I appreciate their care.
