"Son 's amazing care"

About: Aberdeen Royal Infirmary / Emergency Medicine Scottish Ambulance Service / Emergency Ambulance

(as a parent/guardian),

Our youngest son works in a garage in Aberdeen. One afternoon in September September, he collapsed at work and took a seizure.

Ambulance was called and took over his care from his work colleagues.

He telephoned me from the ambulance, but it was clear he was confused, I asked him if there was someone with him that I could talk to. I spoke to paramedic Adam who reassured me they was taking good care of our son and what their plan was . He reassured me that he would be taken quite quickly at ARI emergency department because of his injury, This clearly put my mind at ease, they didn't  have long to wait before he was taken into the department.

By the time we arrived he had already been seen, had an ECG & bloods taken.

We was able to stay with our son during his time there, all staff was extremely attentive in the assessment unit even though the unit was extremely busy.

Along came Andrew the Dr with his medical student, who examined our son and asked him to recount as much as he could of the days events and what had happened, and asking him about his past medical history, then sent him for a brain scan.

Andrews patience and kindness and professionalism helped us cope with the situation knowing our son was getting the best care.

Andrew came back and explained that all tests were clear and what would happen from now.

Finally he stitched his head wound, and sent us home with all the information we needed .

My husband and I cant thank everyone concerned looking after our son enough.

We all hear the horror stories about the NHS, none of those has been our experience. The staff continue to provide amazing care to patients and their families through very difficult and challenging times, and they do this being respectful and courteous to all those who come through their door . We should be the same to them, as without them where we we be .

Dear pinkie13

Thank you so much for sharing your experience following your son’s recent emergency. I see that your feedback relates to a number of services and I’m responding on behalf of the Scottish Ambulance Service.

It’s reassuring to hear that paramedic Adam was able to speak with you directly and explain the care plan clearly, helping to ease your concerns at such a distressing time. I’m glad your son was taken swiftly to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary and received prompt attention.

I will ensure your kind words are shared with the Scottish Ambulance Service team involved including Adam so they know the impact they had. If you’re happy to do so, please consider sending your son’s name, the date and time of the call out and the address to sas.feedback@nhs.scot, along with your Care Opinion username. This will help us match your story with the crew and ensure it reaches them directly.

Thank you again for your thoughtful and generous feedback. Wishing your son continued recovery and good health.

Warm regards
Marie
