"Grateful for the care my mum received"

About: Gynaecology / Gynaecology Oncology Ninewells Hospital / Surgical Admissions Unit

(as a relative),

Our mum was admitted to hospital at the beginning of August 2025 and was put into the short stay ward. Mum often commented on how well she was looked after by the nurses and doctors involved in her care.

However there was a nurse called Steve that mum felt really went above and beyond in his work. Nothing was ever too much trouble to Steve who would regularly check that mum was comfortable, that she had everything she needed, taking time to explain things to our mum and always respecting her dignity.

Our mum was given very bad news whilst on the ward, it was found that she had cancer in multiple places,  and Steve took time to look after us as a family which we truly appreciated.

She was transferred to ward 30 (gynae) and sadly she passed away. Our family were truly grateful for the respect and care that the staff showed towards us when this happened and felt that every member of staff who we encountered in that ward went above and beyond for us.

Our dad described the staff in this ward as angels. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts. xx

And thank you to Steve for the excellent care he gave our mum.

Hi Heather and Grant,

I am sorry for your loss and really appreciate that you have taken the time to leave feedback at this sad time for your family.

It is good to hear that you felt that the nursing care your mum and the family received was so caring and compassionate and I hope this gives you and your dad some comfort.

I will ensure that this is shared with the teams within the gynae ward and also short stay ward where steve works.

thank you again for sharing your experience with us.

Fiona McCallum
