My stroke struck me at 9:30 pm when I was home alone. I first experienced a tingle in my left hand which didn't shake off. I always had a fear of stroke as my dad and grandad had one. I got up and unlocked the front door, managed to go to the toilet and back to the sofa, I was staggering about, so I immediately rang 999, and got an ambulance to my home within 15 mins.
I was whisked off to CAH. I was wheeled into resus and met by the stroke team. I had a brain scan, which showed a bleed on the brain. My BP was through the roof. I had lost total power in left side of my body, including a droop in my face.
I was admitted to Ramone ward at CAH then transferred to ward one Lurgan Hospital 4 days later.
To all the wonderful staff on ward 1, Lurgan hospital, thank you for the outstanding care, kindness, and support you gave me during my recovery. Your professionalism and compassion made a difficult time so much easier, and I am truly grateful.
Each of you played a part in helping me heal, not just physically but emotionally too. Thank you for your patience, encouragement, and dedication.
