"My time in hospital during a scheduled cardiac ablation"

About: Cardiology / Catheter Laboratory (Cath Lab) Ninewells Hospital / Clinical Investigation Unit

(as the patient),

I stayed in the clinical investigations unit before and after the ablation procedure. It was a long day as I was there from 8am until 6pm. From the moment I arrived, the staff on the clinical investigations unit were extremely kind, caring and asked me about how I was feeling, which was nervous.

To mention 2 staff in particular, there was a health care assistant, Lorraine, who was very attentive and even made sure I got to my mum's car ok when I left. I feel awful not remembering her name, but there was another nurse who was also very kind.

Dr Elder's team down in the cardiac cath lab where I had the ablation were incredible. As mentioned I was very nervous but even from Nick the porter taking me down to the lab who was lovely and talked to me I felt so much better knowing I wasn't alone.

Then throughout the whole procedure the charge nurse of the cath lab, Carrie, was extremely attentive and talked to me. Being able to pick my own music for the procedure helped 100% to relieve any tension and they didn't seem to mind my weird music taste.

Another nurse who was also very kind was Hashad, who was also attentive and kind. Dr Elder also took the time both at my initial outpatient appointment last year, prior to the procedure on the day, and after it happened to explain very clearly what was going on and made sure that I knew what my available options were on both occasions. He also checked on me several times throughout the procedure to make sure I was alright.

You could tell it was a close knit team who clearly work very well together and this helped me feel much better overall. Thank you so much.
