"Triage and Labour ward"

About: Aberdeen Maternity Hospital / Obstetrics (Maternity care)

(as the patient),

I would like to bring forward my negative experience with one staff member. They were cold and dismissive towards me and ultimately put me in a really negative mindset at the beginning of my labour. I can not understand why they work with women in such a vulnerable time of their life with the attitude they gave me.

I would like to highlight the fantastic care from Carol and student midwife Jodie. Thank you for helping me to feel great about myself and all I was accomplishing going into my labour with my daughter. For turning around our negative experience and settling the unease that was created. We were so thankful for the shift change, and it bringing you two to help us.
A huge thank you and appreciation for Amy on labour ward for working with me beautifully in birthing my baby. Our relationship at pushing stage was incredible, I felt like such a team with her. Amy worked tirelessly when I was in her care. I will never forget her.
Thank you also to Heather who assisted Amy when at the pushing stage, she was the mother figure I needed at this highly vulnerable stage of delivering my baby. She made me feel wonderful about my accomplishment after, I will be forever grateful.

Hi millimeterkb38

Thank you so much for taking the time to share your experience with us.

Firstly, I'm really sorry to read about your initial negative experience with a member of our team. This is not the level of care we aim to provide, but I am glad to read that the change of shift turned this around for you. I will be sure to pass on your kind words about Carol and Jodie, who will be happy to hear that they helped you to feel supported during that vulnerable time.

It is also heartening to read that your positive experience in labour ward with both Amy and Heather made such a difference during the birth of your baby. Welcoming a new life into the world is such a special moment, and they will have been honoured to have been part of it.

I appreciate that this is an anonymous forum, but if you do wish to make contact to discuss any aspect of your experience further please email gram.womensservices@nhs.scot.

I wish you and your family all the very best for the future.

Best wishes

Jo
