Recently I visited Kilsyth Medical Partnership for a wound check and redress following my top surgery (double mastectomy) as part of my transition as a transgender man. I was understandably nervous — it was the first time I would see my chest after surgery, and I was also anxious about having to explain that I am transgender. From the moment I arrived, I was treated with kindness and respect, which immediately helped put me at ease.
I was seen by Nurse Donna, whose medical knowledge, gentle approach, and compassion made all the difference. She carefully removed the hospital dressings, which had caused a reaction on my sensitive skin, and applied new ones that were far more comfortable. Throughout, she reassured me, explaining what she was doing and what I could expect in the recovery stages. Even though wounds, bruising, and stitches usually make me queasy, Donna’s calm confidence and kindness helped me feel safe and cared for.
As a trans man, this surgery holds deep meaning for me, and being treated with such dignity and understanding during such a vulnerable moment is something I will not forget. I left the appointment not only feeling physically better, but also reassured and uplifted, knowing I was in capable, supportive hands.
A massive thank you to Donna and the team at Kilsyth Medical Partnership for providing excellent health care!
