I have spent a few weeks in hospital this summer. I’m not one to write things like this but couldn’t let the opportunity pass to share my appreciation for every single member of staff on ward 206. The nurses showed such care, compassion and kindness with every single interaction. The ward is big and busy with lots of unwell patients but I was made to feel like the only patient in the world and the staff took the time to chat and spent a lot of time with me the night after my surgery. The nurses also took time to discuss how I was feeling emotionally after a few tough weeks and a big surgery. They took time to suggest practical strategies which were helpful, this made a huge difference to my recovery.
The staff work incredibly well as a team and this was reflected in the care I received. Every single member of staff, especially the nurses are a credit to their profession and to NHS Grampian and I feel incredibly grateful to have been under their care. They all went above and beyond in every single shift. I cannot express how much I would like to thank all the staff for the care I received in ward 206.
The only thing that made my stay uncomfortable was the temperature in the ward. Again the staff did all they could ensuring patients had a fan. None of the windows open in the pink zone and in the height of summer it’s very uncomfortable to recover from surgery or have temperature spikes and fevers in such a warm and stuffy environment. I can imagine it would also be difficult for the staff to work in these conditions at times. In comparison, I spent a few nights in the orange zone in a ward that had windows that opened slightly and it was a much more comfortable temperature in the ward despite a heat wave and the temperature spikes I was experiencing. I wanted to feed this back in the hope that future patients don’t have to experience these uncomfortable temperatures on the ward.
Thank you very much to everyone in ward 206 for their fantastic care during my stay
