"Patient Release Information"

About: Queen Margaret Hospital / Endoscopy

(as the patient),

I was attending Hospital for a follow-up Colonoscopy and at the final release stage an instruction not to use one of my medications for Hypertension for 3 days was given, the instruction was given in a manner as if I should have known. Thinking about it further I would make a couple of suggestions. Firstly, this type of information should be given during the initial admittance/approval form completion when medication is discussed. Secondly on release I was given a Patient Information sheet which has  a section at the bottom for any other relevant information which can be completed by hand, I believe that it would be a good idea to note this type of instruction on the sheet. All other aspects of my hospital visit were fully satisfactory and I have no complaints about the level of service provided.

Dear taurustq50

Thank you for posting your feedback from your recent visit to our Regional Endoscopy Unit at QMH. I am unsure you if you are an NHS Lothian patient or an NHS Fife patient? All patients attending for appointments are sent a booklet with their appointment letter which has medicine advice inside.

Most NHS Fife patients are pre-assessed and medication discussed during the initial phone-call unless they are called to take a cancellation where time would not allow for the pre-assessment to take place in time therefore medication should be discussed on admission.

NHS Lothian patients are not pre-assessed by NHS Lothian prior to arrival at QMH for procedures, however our staff should discuss medication on admission and discharge to ensure they have read the leaflet and aware of medication restart.

If you wish to discuss it further you can email myself at yvonne.bernard@nhs.scot where I would be happy to help. I will discuss with our staff also and highlight your comments mentioned.

kind regards
