"A&E experience"

About: Causeway Hospital / Accident & Emergency

(as the patient),

Terrible place to go, too long waiting times, doctors say one thing then another, told to come back different days to be refused treatment. One doctor I saw was very good, and the nurses are all good also. In my experience, the other doctors that work in this hospital are no help whatsoever, expect some male doctors, but I think the doctor I saw deserves to be in charge of the ward or get a higher role as they were the only one that seemed to know what’s they were talking about.

Hello Johhe33

My name is Victoria McCrory and I am the Assistant Clinical Services Manager for Causeway ED. I am sorry to hear that you have recently been unwell and had to attend the dept for further assessment and treatment.

I apologize for the experience which you have described. This does not align with trust core values nor the standards of care which I would expect to be upheld in the department.

I am sorry that you faced long waiting times; at present the ED remains under significant pressure with a high volume of attendances. This is a challenge which all EDs in the region are facing. We continue to work with our patient flow and site co ordination teams to improve flow through the department and reduce waiting times however at times significant pressures delays can still occur.

I am sorry that you had a poor experience with some doctors which you encountered. I will ensure that your feedback is shared with our clinical team, and also tabled at our next ED governance meeting. Thank you also for taking the time to note the positive experience you had with nursing staff and a member of the clinical team. I will also ensure this feedback is shared, as it shows how a positive encounter with staff can impact upon a patient.

Thank you for taking the time to post this feedback; all feedback positive and less positive helps inform service improvement and drives change.

I hope you continue to make a strong recovery

Yours Sincerely

Victoria McCrory
