"Family support by my husband's FIRS Team"

About: Forensic mental health / Forensic Intensive Recovery Support Team (FIRST)

(as a staff member posting for a carer/relative),

My husband has been open to mental health services for many years and previously having our voice heard, as his family, has proved difficult and we felt undervalued. However, since working with his current care team and particularly since his recent admissions, the support we have received a family has been excellent.

As a family, we meet with the care team, are involved in care planning and have meetings individually and as a family to provide our views and they acknowledge them and our roles. We feel comfortable with them in our home, and they are always respectful and respond promptly when support is requested.

Thank you for your recent feedback. I am sorry to hear some of your previous experiences with other services have been negative and you have felt undervalued and not heard. We actively encourage family members and carers to be involved in a patients care and understand the incredible value in this for all involved. We welcome family and carers views and want them to be an active part of the care planning and recognise the integral roles they have and support they provide. It is reassuring to hear of the positive support you are receiving from the MPFT FIRS Team, and we hope the additional BFT training provided to team members is further improving our practices and support to families. I have shared this positive feedback with the wider team and would welcome any further comments/suggestions you may have to continue improving our practices.
