"Practically impossible to get an appointment"

About: St James' Practice

(as a service user),

Appalling service. I have found it is practically impossible to get an appointment by phone. I followed the online appointment process exactly, logging in at 8am on the dot, filling out the form straight away, fully aware it was likely a waste of time. Unsurprisingly, nothing came of it.

I then rang the surgery to explain that my condition was causing extreme discomfort, that it was most likely contagious and could be passed on to others in the community, and that I had arranged time away from work and my long daily commute specifically so I could make and attend an appointment. The receptionist repeatedly cut me off, spoke over me, and gave the same scripted responses, insisting I would definitely hear back with an appointment that day. Needless to say, I waited all day and heard nothing.

I rarely go to the GP unless absolutely necessary, but on the occasions I have been seen the consultations have been rushed, dismissive, and carried out with no care or compassion. I have been treated as a nuisance to be processed quickly and moved on, not as person in need of medical attention.

This surgery is, in my experience, an absolute disgrace. Sadly, it reflects a wider truth: GP practices not fulfilling the most basic duty of care. The people they are meant to serve are left feeling ignored, dismissed, and abandoned by a system that has forgotten its purpose.
