"Goitre and part thyroid removal - a fairly big operation"

About: Dumfries & Galloway Royal Infirmary / General Surgery

(as the patient),

Got a fairly big goitre removed. Dr Shah was brilliant and the nurse who looked after me yesterday in recovery (think her name was Jackie), and some of today (Olivia and another lady). Through the night was more relaxed and the pain crept back.

What I found concerning is that after 5 hours under general and a pretty big operation I was discharged. Not really on top of pain and very lightheaded with low BP when I stood. I’m home feeling perplexed by it all to be honest and with only a small bottle of pain relief for such a bit mass removed. Care was good until all of a sudden, I was discharged home.

Dear Rugby88,

I would like to thank you for reaching out to us regarding your experience. I would like to thank you for your kind words regarding Dr Shah, and nurses Jackie and Olivia. I will be sure to forward these on to the staff, as they are very much appreciated.

I am disappointed to read of your concerns regarding your discharge and the pain relief you have been given. I understand that after such a surgery, it can be daunting to go home so quickly. If you would like to discuss your concerns in greater detail, please do not hesitate to contact me via telephone or email. I have included both at the end of my response.

Miss Stevie Johnston
