"Information after biopsy"

About: Western Isles Hospital / Outpatient Clinic

(as the patient),

I recently had a biopsy of my womb at a family planning clinic.

They didn't really explain what it was checking for, only that it was to rule things out. They also did not give me any instructions on what to do afterwards. I was left feeling very sore with abdominal cramps and some bleeding for a few days after.

I checked online when I got home and realised I should have been told not to use tampons for the bleeding and to avoid sex for a week as these things would put me at risk of infection! I'm really glad I thought to look it up myself but worry about other women who might not and would be at risk of infection.
