"Support following bi-lateral stroke"

About: Countywide Community Care Service Delivery Unit / Community Stroke Service

(as the patient),

Discharge from hospital following a stay of a week, unfortunately I also had low salt count and urine infection.. both of which causing the feeling of fatigue and lower back pain also post stroke fatigue. Loss of appetite and no strength to want to recover.

Fortunately I was visited at home and assessed by a member of the stroke team.

From there on.. I began first to have direction.. appetite improved..I began to understand and my mood changed, I began to have visits from physiotherapists Lucy and Amy(student) began a plan of exercises that I carry out. Which gave me something to aim for.

Unfortunately I again had a urinary infection and GP prescribed antibiotics… I felt so supported by the visits of the stroke members I related my medical status of infection.

The outcome the stroke nurse Louise visited me and thoroughly examined and fortunately identified atrial fibrillation.. which was acted upon and My doctor confirmed the result.. I am now on medication.

So for me the stroke team including telephone members were life savers.

Hello

Thank you so much for taking the time and consideration to feedback to us - particularly as you are in early days of recovery following your stroke. We appreciate that this life-changing event can be so bewildering and overwhelming. I am so pleased that the team gave you the necessary foundation to move forward. We believe that having the appropriate information as to what has happened is empowering and it's great that the team were also able to motivate you to work with them as part of your recovery despite your other medical issues.

Positive feedback is also incredibly motivating for the team and I will ensure that Lucy, Amy, Louise and all the team receive this lovely feedback. Our stroke nurses are highly skilled and experienced and it's brilliant to hear that Louise was able to identify that you had Atrial Fibrillation, which may well have been the cause of your stroke.

Thank you again for posting this - it makes what we do even more worthwhile and meaningful. I wish you all the best in your ongoing recovery.
