"Transvaginal ultrasound"

About: Arbroath Infirmary / X-rays and Scans

(as the patient),

My GP recently referred me for a transvaginal ultrasound scan. I expected that this would be like a pregnancy ultrasound but when the appointment letter arrived, the information leaflet was clear that it was an internal scan. I have previously had very painful cervical smear tests and so I found the prospect of this invasive procedure quite stressful. However, when I arrived for my appointment, both the nurse and the radiographer were wonderfully reassuring, caring and professional. They helped me control my anxiety by slowing down my breathing and they took their time with everything, making sure I was in the best position and talking me through each step. In the end, it was not a painful procedure at all. I just want to express my deep appreciation for their kind and respectful care. It made such a difference. I'm afraid I don't remember the nurse's name - she introduced herself at the beginning but I was still in panic mode at that point! I believe the radiographer was called Nicola. Both were absolutely great and I just wanted to say a warm 'thank you' to them for their care.

Dear couragezf78

Thankyou for posting this review on Care Opinion. It is great to know that Nicola and the radiographic assistant put you at your ease, and that the examination was a much better experience than you expected. They will be thrilled to get this feedback.

I will forward this review to all the team, as it demonstrates the quality of service that we strive to give to all patients across the whole imaging service in NHST.

Many thanks

Cathy
