"I’ve lost all faith to be honest"

About: General Practices in Grampian

(as the patient),

Really rude member of staff, medical care not great at all .

Asked if I could pass on a note to GP about medication for review, told by member of staff that they couldn’t hear me properly .

They said to put it in a repeat form.

The whole point of phoning was to ask if it could be re prescribed as it’s not currently on repeat .

If I were to go to pharmacy they would literally just tell me to contact doctor .

I’ve had a lot of bad experiences either this surgery , but couldn’t change practice due to Covid issues .

Not great when you’re receiving mental health medication.

I’ve had very little help with an ongoing pelvic condition, GPs don't seem interested just look at you blankly.

Same with my ongoing hives issue, just keep getting batted back and forth.

I’ve lost all faith to be honest .

Walked into pharmacy recently whilst having hives reaction and told them about situation with doctors .

They said I should have gone to A&E .

So don’t know who to believe at the moment, every appointment I’ve had with this surgery is either a waste of time .

One or two of them have been helpful, that’s more nurse appointments .

Thank you for getting in touch Rr567. I’m so sorry to hear about the ongoing challenges with the GP. Please don’t lose faith – there will definitely be GP’s in the practice that will listen to you, but it sounds like you are struggling to get past the first post and reach the right GP – or a GP at all sometimes. Bypassing the GP practice and going straight to A&E isn’t a solution, although I can see why when you are being batted back and forth it might seem like it is. If it was me I would try to find a doctor, or nurse, within the practice that I feel listens and understands me and then stick with them - consistency is so important with recurring issues.

The majority of GP Practices in Grampian are independent contractors, each with their own system for managing complaints and feedback. They don't have access to the Care Opinion system and won't see this without it going directly to them.

For your specific feedback to be addressed and looked into, you will need to call or write to the practice manager. If you would like independent advice or support on providing feedback to your practice there is the option to contact the Patient advice and Support Service by calling 0800 917 2127 or by visiting their website: https://pass-scotland.org.uk.

When contacting the practice directly, you will need to share your name and contact details, they won’t look into your feedback without this information unfortunately. I know not everyone feels comfortable giving feedback directly to the practice, and if would like, I can share your feedback with them anonymously - but you will need to contact me directly with the name of the practice, (any contact information shared with me won't be shared any further) and because they won’t know who you are they are unlikely to provide a response that gives specific advice or answers. I am more than happy to listen and give advice where I can though.

My contact details are kirsten.dickson@nhs.scot or telephone / text: 07885720267.

Take care,

Kirsten
