"Visiting with autistic daughter"

About: Royal Hospital for Children (Glasgow) / Accident & Emergency

(as a parent/guardian),

Last night we went to hospital with my daughter who has autism and finds hospitals very overwhelming and it creates so much anxiety in her . It’s very challenging for me as a parent being in busy environment with her , specially when waiting times are long . But last we had such a positive experience from the moment we stepped in . I normally don’t write any reviews or opinions but I want to thank to a doctor whom name I don’t remember for her kindest and understanding she was excellent . Truly ,my daughter allowed her to listín to her chest and She even cuddled a DR . This never happened to us before . I am sure she could feel that positive energy .  The nurse Ewan  was so gentle with my daughter , and also with a parent he showed so much understanding and affection.  I felt so much support around me that made this experience so so much easier. He walked us all the way out to show us a car  park and it was that extra touch . These things may seems small but they have massive impact to many people.  Kindness cost nothing , thank you for your hard work  and for doing your job with your heart !

Good morning Alezt63,

Thank you for taking the time to post your experience within our A&E department. I hope your daughter is doing well.

I appreciate that attending the A&E department for you both would be overwhelming especially as the department can be extremely busy at times.

It has been a pleasure to read such kind words about the care provided to you and your daughter on your visit.

The kindness and understanding show to you by Ewan is fabulous feedback for him and I will be glad to pass on this positive feedback to Ewan.

If you would like to share more information with me, including your daughter's name and date of birth, I can locate the Dr who assessed you within the department and share your positive feedback with them.

You can contact me by email at lorna.aitken3@nhs.scot

Once again I thank you for your feedback.

Lorna Aitken

Acting lead nurse A&E
