"Appointment text messages"

About: Community Services (AMH) / CMHT East

(as a service user),

On more than one occasion now, I have received a "confirmation text" for a new appointment with RDaSH Central Team. These texts are useful when used as confirmation of appointments which have already been made, that are known about. However, to receive a message which simply says "you have an appointment on X date at X time", for a new appointment, with no information as to what the appointment is for, whom it is with, where it is (particularly important if you are under more than one team/branch of CMHT) is not only unhelpful, it is confusing and creates anxiety.

To me these texts do not serve as replacements for appointment letters, which is what they are being used as, effectively. Please would you send out appointment letters for new appointments, by email or by post, or free-type a text with enough relevant information that patients know where to come and who to expect to see. It may sound minor but it can make a big difference to anxiety levels around all the appointments and would potentially improve non-attendance levels.

Thank you for your feedback I wholeheartedly agree with every single point you have made, we will endeavour to review our processes and ensure that wherever possible patients are sent an appointment letter, in the event that an appointment is being arranged at short notice, we will ensure that we try to contact patients and arrange an appointment prior to receiving a confirmation text, if we are unable to contact a patient we will send a text and wherever possible an email detailing what the appointment is for, whom it is with and where it will be.

Please accept my sincere apology for any anxiety and distressed caused and accept my assurance that our practice will change accordingly
