About: Scottish Ambulance Service / Patient Transport Service University Hospital Hairmyres / Emergency Department

(as a parent/guardian),

My 4-month-old daughter took unwell with bronchiolitis and we were taken to Hairmyres by ambulance.

From the second we arrived, the team were warm and caring.  The consultant was excellent at explaining what was happening.  After 2 hours, the decision was to refer us over to Wishaw to a ward to be monitored.

Unfortunately, the 1 hour transfer service took a lot longer and by hour 7, I was exhausted from standing rocking my very upset baby.

The team in resuscitation were incredible. Offering help where they could.  Scott, Fiona & Victoria in particular were wonderful.  Taking my baby off the monitors for a while to let me walk and finding me a quiet corner where they could switch lights off to let us have some quiet time.

Eventually, Fiona decided to try and catch an ambulance crew after they dropped a patient to see if they would take us which one lovely crew at the end of their shift thankfully agreed.

I cannot thank the wonderful consultant and nursing staff in Resuscitation.  They made a horrendous experience bearable.

Afternoon Lynsey9

Thank you for sharing your experience at the Emergency Department of University Hospital Hairmyres.

I’m sorry to hear that your daughter was unwell, and I hope she is now recovering well. Please accept my sympathy and empathy—this must have been a very distressing time for both of you.

It’s heartening to hear that you felt supported by our staff.

I will ensure your kind words are passed on to the team, especially Scott, Fiona, and Victoria.

Wishing your daughter a smooth and speedy recovery.

Warm regards,

Shirley-Anne
