"Blue Badge spaces not available"

About: Inverclyde Royal Hospital

(as a relative),

While appreciating parking at Inverclyde Royal Hospital is at a premium, I feel I must complain about disabled parking/blue badge areas at the hospital.

Yesterday my husband and I [both blue badge holders] arrived for an appointment. No priority spaces were available and we waited in the area for 25 minutes in the hope that someone would leave. During this time we ascertained that about 50% of the cars using the disabled spaces were not displaying blue badges.

Fortunately we had arrived early enough to deal with this problem but I had to literally dump my husband at the drop-off point [while double parked] and then locate a parking space. As I too am disabled and can only walk very short distances, this proved problematic and I am suffering the consequences today.

I appreciate you cannot eradicate the selfishness of some people who use these spaces wrongly, I wonder why there is no check on the car parking. I know not all disabilities are visible, but blue badges are issued for valid reasons and no-one should be parking there without one.

Please can you help? Thank you.

Dear Beckyhrp356

Thank you for getting in touch via Care Opinion.

Please accept my apologies for the car parking issues you experienced at Inverclyde Royal Hospital. I appreciate how frustrating this must have been.

Unfortunately, there are no parking attendants on this site to manage the parking situation. At the present time, our Facilities staff check the areas from time to time, but unfortunately staff are only able to speak with the drivers and ask them to refrain from parking in the area when the vehicles arrive/leave or when the driver is with the vehicle. Staff do not have any powers to issue Fixed Penalty notices. We are actively trying to take steps to manage this car parking situation.

Thank you

Nicole

Thank you for replying but I wonder if a polite notice stuck under the wipers might help?
