"I have never felt so mugged off in my life"

About: Royal Hospital for Children and Young People (Edinburgh) / Outpatients

(as a service user),

Attended my son's appointment and sat for an hour waiting to see  a dr  to still not be called. Went to help desk to see what was happening as expected minor delays but not like this. Both boys were crying as were hungry and thirsty but i was afraid to leave and get them something as no one knew when i would be called, kept getting told i was next.

Eventually we got seen, they sent  us for a xray and bloods. We came back and waited some to find out they hadn't even requested bloods. By this point i was so upset as felt mugged off.  I explained to nurses i was diabetic and needed to get food as i could feel a hypo coming on. They got bloods sorted that sadly failed as wee boy hadn't had enough to drink. And the cheek of the dr, they came out with their bag and asked if we had had our xray. I said yes, over a hour ago, and they said they had a meeting now and would send a letter in the post. I have never felt so mugged off in my life. As explained, I feel that they had a duty of care to finish their clinic but after we'd waited over 2 hours they walked away with not a care in the world. So unprofessional.

Only upside is the experience was a nice staff nurse who was good to kids and got them a packed lunch as seen how upset we all were with leaving with no answers. Have requested to get referred to a different clinic after horrific experience.

Hi matarrf87,

Thank you for taking your time to tell us about your experience and I am sorry to hear that it was not a positive experience. This experience is not acceptable. Unfortunately as I do not have any details about which clinic you attended I cannot discuss this with the staff involved to provide feedback and ask them to reflect on your experience.

If you would like me to do this, please could you send your child's details to loth.feedback@nhs.scot and we will fully investigate this.

I would like to apologise for your experience and thank you for bringing this to my attention.
