I had an appointment with my GP regarding atrial fibrillation and he immediately referred me to the Clinical Assessment Unit at Forth Valley Hospital. I was seen within 20 minutes of arrival - the so-called Sieve process - then onto the next stage of ECG, bloods etc. I was allocated a cubicle within an hour or so of arrival and had blood pressure etc checked hourly. The doctor prescribed a large dose of digoxin which began to calm everything down and it was later decided to admit me to Cardiology for the night. I was moved to a large private en-suite room with TV etc and a wireless heart monitor. I was discharged the following morning and will return to the GP in 10 days.
The standard of care and kindness which I encountered at every step in this process was outstanding. All of the medical professionals were cheerful and positive, knew exactly what they were doing and kept me informed and calm throughout. Even the food was good! So can I thank the following folk in CAU - Helen, the two Laurens, Stephanie, the two Dr. Marthas, Dr Reid and Dr Dan and Theresianna. And in Cardiology Andrew, Lissy, Cheryl, Nancy, Claire and Dr Ajay. Apologies to anyone I've missed. And of course, my outstanding GP, Dr Sparks at Camelon Medical.
