"We had the best service and care"

About: Manor Hospital / Accident and emergency Manor Hospital / Older people's healthcare West Midlands Ambulance Service University NHS Foundation Trust / Emergency ambulance

(as a service user),

My father was taken to A&E on a Friday night end of August 25 by the paramedics following a minor fall but due to his breathing and a couple of ECG’s they wanted him seen medically. My father had very good care there and was transferred to AMU where his care was good. When my mom visited on Saturday afternoon he was still breathless but was sitting out and eating a little so we had little concern as we knew he was in good hands.

At approximately 4am Sunday morning my mom received a phone call to say that dad had deteriorated and we needed to attend asap which we did. When we arrived dad was on high flow oxygen and looked distressed the nurse who escorted us to dad’s bed explained everything to us and was very caring she put us at ease. When the Dr attended he explained dad had suffered an MI and that they had given him all the medical treatment they could and he was now palliative.

We were allowed to sit with dad and when asked if all the family were there my mom explained my partner was in the car with the family dog, the sr then went and gained permission for the dog to come to the ward and lie with dad we couldn’t of appreciated this more as dad loved the dog so much and it gave our dog chance to say his goodbyes as well. The staff provided us with tea coffee toast etc and were always on hand when we needed them.

Dad passed at around 11 and we were allowed our time with him as was the dog. We had the best service and care we could have ever hoped for and we will be eternally grateful for all they did for dad and ourselves. As a Nurse myself I was extremely satisfied with all the care they provided.
