"Letter giving information about appointment"

About: Royal Devon & Exeter Hospital (Wonford) / Fracture Clinic

(as a relative),

The letter we received indicated Fracture Clinic on level 1, area K. There is no indication either on the letter, the RDE website or even Google maps, about where area K is and how to best access it. There needs to be clearer indication of where area K is located on the website, not just relying on the (very clear) signage in the hospital itself. It would also be helpful to have a reference in the appointment letter about which entrance to use and even expected walking time, suggesting using a wheelchair etc.

We assumed, fortunately, it would be in the Princess Elizabeth Orthopaedic Centre, but someone else may have used the main entrance. For us it would have been a long walk with a broken ankle or finding a wheelchair.

Otherwise the service was outstanding, being seen very quickly with great staff and out of the hospital in less than 2 hours having had an x-ray, consultation with a doctor and consultation with physio. Thank you.

I am responsible for monitoring overall service delivery, and the day to day running of both departments. I work closely with the Orthopaedic Consultants, Radiologists, Therapists, Trauma Nurse Practitioners, Orthopaedic Practitioners and Nursing staff to ensure cohesive care is delivered. I am very fortunate to have a dedicated team of staff, who work extremely hard to ensure patient safety is maintained, and that clinics run as smoothly as possible.

Dear Late Gapper,

Thank you for taking the time to provide honest feedback relating to the issues that you experienced trying to plan your trip to Fracture clinic, and specifically the lack of information available online.

Please be reassured that I will review our website information and try to ensure that it is updated with the relevant information regarding access and location. I will also contact the administration team to see if we can amend the content of the appointment letters to include specific information on department location and accessibility.

I am very pleased to hear that despite the above, your actual appointment in Fracture clinic was considered to be of a high standard. We work extremely hard as a team to try and ensure that patient experience is positive, and that we are working efficiently to try and minimise overall waiting times.

I will feedback to the team your kind praise of the service, as this is always warmly welcomed!

Kind regards,

Julia King

Clinical Nurse Manager

Fracture clinic & PEOC OPD.
