I was admitted to A&E by police as they responded quicker than the ambulance during a serious mental health crisis. The staff were appalling. It was in Daisy Hill Hospital Newry. R
The member of staff on reception had to get me to yell my sensitive and personal information so that they could hear properly and note it down on the computer. When I questioned do you all not respect patient confidentiality here? they got a major attitude problem with me and told me that no-one can hear what I'm saying. I told them and pointed to the waiting room which was maximum capacity who were all staring at me because they heard me having to raise my voice so they could take my info down. The member of staff on reception insisted that I was being abusive for simply stating that my privacy was not being respected.
Then another patient who was overhearing the conversation began to call me homophobic slurs and threaten bodily harm to myself. Staff did nothing about this but luckily police were still here and seen and heard it all.
I told hospital staff after police left that if I'm being moved rooms, to please not put me back in the main lobby of A&E because the patient who'd abused me was still there as I kept bumping into them when I was on my way to the bathroom multiple times as I was there for about half a day waiting to be seen. They assured me the patient had gone. They hadn't. They basically brushed noses with me every encounter after that.
I kept reporting/trying to report this to staff at the Station at A&E department, but no-one was ever there. I saw a lot of staff walking about joking and laughing with each other.
I'm absolutely disgusted at the hospital staff in Daisy Hill Newry. I have no faith in the NHS at all. Ended up having to call the police to return to the hospital because I felt unsafe. No security in the hospital and no-one accompanying me when I requested to use the bathroom etc. out of fear of my personal safety .
In my view, the staff at Daisy Hill should be absolutely ashamed of themselves. 0/10.
