"Time passed and we never heard anything"

About: University Hospital Ayr / Dental

(as a parent/guardian),

My son regularly attends the dental clinic at Ayr Hospital and receives excellent service. At our last appointment we asked the admin staff to send out our follow up appointment, as normal.

However time passed and we never heard anything so I contacted the clinic and asked about the appointments and was advised that I would hear back.

Two weeks later I received a telephone call with the person asking if I am the parent of patient x I said yes to which the reply then came that they were phoning about us missing our appointment on the said date. My reply was no we didn’t, we never received an appointment to miss.

Had the person came on the phone and said can they just check with myself if we were made aware that we had an appointment on the said date? The negativity in the first section of the conversation obviously offended me as a parent, we never miss appointments as we are aware of the cost implications to the NHS.

Anyway today my son received a letter to attend the dental clinic at an other location.

Dear Macjack

Thank you so much for taking the time to share your comments of your experience with the dental clinic. I am so sorry for the error that led to you not being advised of your son's appointment and subsequent conversation with a member of the team.

Our services strive to ensure patients and families feel supported and are kept fully informed and I am so sorry this was not your experience on this occasion.

I will ensure that your comments are passed to our dental service team to share with staff accordingly.

Once again, thank you so much for your feedback, as this really does help our teams to identify areas for improvement on how we deliver services to patients.

Best wishes

Marie
