"Exceptional care in Theatres, Recovery, HDU and Ward 4B"

About: Caithness General Hospital / General Surgery Caithness General Hospital / High Dependency Unit

(as a service user),

Was taken to Ward 4B after extensive abdominal surgery for post incisional hernia repair. The Theatres and Recivery Team were brilliant, putting me at ease when I was quite overwhelmed and looking after me very attentively. I was then transferred to HDU.

The staff in HDU were excellent - they helped to manage my pain brilliantly and ensure that I was as comfortable as I could be. The staff went out of their way to check in on me (even Theatre staff popped by to see how I was doing!) I suffered a couple of scary episodes of low blood pressure and the quick reactions and treatment of these by all of the staff involved was exceptional. They dealt with them in a calm and professional way and made me feel safe and that I was being provided with the utmost care and diligence. After two days, I was transferred to Ward 4B.
The team in 4B couldn't have been any better - you can tell that they are a small and tight-knit group of staff who work together in a collaborative way and are genuinely a team. They made what was a stressful time for me much, much easier. They are all warm and affable, but highly professional. Their care of me was exceptional and they went out of their way to really make me feel looked after. Nothing was too much trouble, although I hope I was an easy patient to care for!
Even when they were quite obviously busy, they still took their time with me. I felt as though my care was their utmost priority. I admit that I was quite worried about my operation and also the standard of care I might receive but I can honestly say that from start to finish of my operation and stay, every single person I interacted with was brilliant. They have my heartfelt thanks.
