"Telephone callback service"

About: Shawbury Medical Practice

(as the patient),

Telephoned Shawbury medical practice to secure an appointment due to me having a medical condition that has prevented me eating and sleeping properly for some time.  I was asked by a member of staff to call back in the afternoon.  I called back as requested and chose the option to be placed in a callback queue. Over the next 2 hours I went from 18th in the queue to 1.  But instead of getting the callback I received a message saying there had been an attempt to call me back.  There was absolutely no callback.

I immediately telephoned again and this time held on the phone.  There were 2 in the queue.  After just over 1 hour waiting  thought I started to make my way to the Shawbury surgery as by now I thought there must be some issue with the telephone system.

While on my way to the surgery, after 4.30pm a member of staff answered the phone. I explained the situation and my attempts to get through since AM. The member of staff apologised but informed me that there could be no further appointments that day.  I was then asked to call back again at 8.30 AM!

There must be some other way to secure an appointment without enduring all of this.  I have no confidence in the telephone callback service, and so I have very little confidence in the surgery’s current system for dealing with appointments.
