"Waiting Times"

About: Aberdeen Royal Infirmary / Gynaecology Services

(as the patient),

I have been experiencing severe symptoms since I was a teenager, but for 11 years I was repeatedly told by doctors it was “just bad periods.”

Eventually, I was referred for a diagnostic laparoscopy for suspected endometriosis at the end of November last year.

It has now been 40 weeks, and I have not had any update. This is far beyond the 18-week Referral-to-Treatment standard. The ongoing delays are leaving me in severe pain, impacting my ability to work and live my daily life, and severely affecting my mental health.

It is unacceptable that so many women, not just myself, are left to suffer without proper diagnosis or timely treatment.

Good afternoon, thank you for sending through your feedback. We are currently experiencing longer than acceptable delays for our patients on the Gynae Waiting List. If you would wish to discuss your case and expected time for surgery, please contact 01224 554904 and we can check this for you. Apologies again for the length of wait for your procedure, we appreciate the impact this has on our patients.
