My Father is in his 80s and has had an Alzheimer's diagnosis for 20 months, but had a lot of symptoms before the diagnosis so has needed care for around 4 years.
My Mother, who is in her late 70s, is his carer. My Father has been on a waiting list for respite care since his diagnosis to give my elderly Mother a break, and although she is eligible under the the Carers (Scotland) Act 2016 she has to date received no respite care.
Anam Cara in Kilbirnie are having their beds cut and he is on the cancellation list, but things are getting desperate for my Mother. In addition he goes to an Alzheimer's Day Care Centre in Ardrossan which is under threat of closure.
How can you fulfil the commitment of respite for carers working tirelessly to keep their loved ones out of full time care?
