"Discharged from hospital and no support at home"

About: Craigavon Area Hospital / Emergency Department Craigavon Area Hospital / Minor Injuries Unit Craigavon Area Hospital / Occupational Therapy Craigavon Area Hospital / Physiotherapy

(as the patient),

I had a knee injury and got a fracture. The way ortho team had treated me is terrifying. I am migrant, I live alone no support from anyone other than some friends. I have cast on my right leg. I asked for support at home. Physio and OT saw me and mentioned that I need Ax1-2. But they discharged me from the hospital I am in terrible pain.

I can’t cope alone at home. I can’t even raise my leg,I can’t walk out to toilet alone. I live in a 2 storey house. No urinals, bed pan or commode was provided. I came home today and in order to pee i am using a water bottle and it has been spilling in my bed.

I am sleeping in my own pee. I don’t why they have done to me like this. The reason they told me is i am 26 year old and i am young so you can manage everything, I don’t know how.

Also I have been really faced racism and I didn’t expect such an act from the trust. People like us come here to work and helping people here and in response if something happened to us this is what we are receiving. This should be stopped and proper care should be equally provided.

One of the staff nurses working in 2 North. Bed managers and ED incharges and ortho doctors were pushing me to home. If any one them come and see my situation they will understand. I really didn’t want to this here but i feel so emotional. The staff in minor injuries were outstanding they provided all their best care.

I know hospital is busy. But you can’t leave people like this. We are also paying tax to the government. Please understand 🙏

Good afternoon,

Thank you for providing this response, I am really upset to read of the experience you have had in ED. If you are unsafe and not coping at home I would advise that you re attend to ED asap or contact your GP.

I will look in to the rest of the issues addressed and post a response in due course.

Sister Green.
