"Care received from NHS"

About: Health visiting / Perth & Kinross Health Visiting Ninewells Hospital / Maternity care

(as a service user),

In December 2024, I gave birth to my second son via an emergency C Section, when I went into early labour and I wanted to share my story as all NHS staff have been remarkable, from the midwife’s in my pregnancy, to the care received during and after my birth from the amazing midwife’s and health visitors.

I wanted to share my experience as I believe their care has been crucial to both myself and my son being both happy and healthy. We feel supported by all staff, who have always been there to reassure us and provide us with any answers to our questions, as well as the medical care we needed.

I know there’s a reduction is health visitor numbers & visits, which I really believe would be detrimental to other new mums. I’ve been very lucky to have a positive experience and a village around me, but for those struggling with difficult labours, low moods, or any other pregnancy/new mum related struggles, I don’t think it’s fair to make them go over a year without a catch up and check in with a health visitor to make sure mum and baby are well.
