I recently attended the Bier's block clinic but unfortunately could not have the procedure as my blood pressure was very high. I was treated kindly and professionally by the orthopaedic registrar, anaesthetic trainee and anaesthetic consultant. They explained clearly why they could not go ahead with the procedure and referred me to the interface unit where I underwent some investigations and started on anti hypertensive treatment.
I subsequently attended the orthopaedic outpatient clinic and had an open reduction and internal fixation. I attended the day surgery unit and was operated on on the trauma list. I again was treated kindly and professionally by all the staff. I was given good clear instructions on what to expect in theatre and at home and was given a good supply of analgesics.
One thing I did notice, and mentioned to one of the nurses, was that when I went to the toilet post op, the support worker didn't wait outside and when I got back on to the trolley they did not put the cotside up and I was also unable to reach my glass of water. I noticed the same individual left the cot side down on another patient. I mention this as I consider this to be a safety hazard.
