"Trying to access crisis support for my mum"

About: Derbyshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust / Adult mental health Derbyshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust / Crisis resolution

(as a relative),

I've dealt with Derby crisis team on a couple of occasions whilst supporting my mum during her worst times battling anxiety/depression /suicidal thoughts/delusions/extreme distress and each time dealing with them it's a traumatic experience since the staff we have encounted we have found to be rude, cold & lacking in knowledge.

Only once have I come across a member of the team who was compassionate and helpful, some other staff members we have seen have made things worse!

My recent experience was a staff member telling me will assess my mum but I believe it's already decided nothing will be done. Things had escalated and the concerns were high, the risks were high, but they didn't seem to care. Before even seeing my mum I think they knew they were just going to pass it back to her usual mental health team.

The crisis team also told me they had on their record my mum was unwilling to work with them - this based on my mum previously calling them (as advised) because she felt suicidal and the staff member on the phone didn't show compassion but blame as my mum had previous hospital admissions and had relapsed so my mum told them to in other words to do one. I believe the staff are cruel. They are not a crisis team, apparently a home treatment service but seemingly do the bare minimum and show no professional ethic.

A worker from the derby crisis team also said to me my expectations weren't realistic, their visit (which was referred by my mum's mental health team) was apparently to simply assess and then they would leave, and my mum would have to manage her presentation her self the worker said.

I asked what if she can't handle herself? She's not well and I'm really concerned. The worker said then they are not the right service and my mum would need to go to A&E.

I think this is complete nonsense. If I took my mum to A&E due to presenting with severe mental health issues they would not do anything, it's not a medical issue they can treat! They would ring the crisis team to come and assess her!! Which is exactly what I wanted the crisis team to do - assess my mum's mental state and risk.

The distress they caused by telling me they were coming but it would not result in anything and my calling them to update them on the escalation of my mum's behaviours was unnecessary and a hindrance to them was in my experience completely devastating, traumatic, cruel...

I am just a daughter trying to seek support for myself and most importantly my mum who is living through hell. In my opinion, the staff should be held accountable, it should not be tolerated.
