(as the patient),

A few months ago, as a consequence of having a 21 year old mindset on an 80 year old body, I sustained a badly broken leg and ankle, and for the first time in my life, required hospital treatment

My experience was 5 star in every department, from the operator taking the emergency call, to the highly knowledgeable and chirpy paramedics to every function operating in the BGH. All I experienced was patience, genuine sympathy and good old fashioned banter leading to a successful series of operations and after care treatment. Big big thanks to the district nurses who have continued to provide an after care service since my discharge.

In comparison, a close friend living abroad also had an accident requiring similar care and attention. Their experience was the complete opposite (maybe the cheese sandwiches were better) that shows that our NHS when required still sets a world standard to be envied

Dear Old Joe,

Thank you so much for sharing your story and for doing it with such humour and positivity! It sounds like your 21-year-old mindset gave you quite the adventure and we’re so glad to hear that your experience was five-star from start to finish. I see that your feedback relates to a number of services. I'm responding on behalf of the Scottish Ambulance Service.

We’re especially grateful for your kind words about the emergency call handler and the paramedics who attended. It’s wonderful to know they brought not only knowledge and professionalism but also a bit of good old-fashioned banter to help ease the situation.

If you’re happy to share the date, time and address of the call out with us at sas.feedback@nhs.scot, along with your Care Opinion username, we’d love to match your story with the team and pass on your thanks directly.

Wishing you continued healing and many more youthful adventures ahead!

Warmest wishes,

Marie
