My 92-year old mother was presented mid August to the Royal Surrey County Hospital Emergency Department after an ambulance call to her flat earlier in the day. She had been experiencing palpitations and dizziness. She was rapidly admitted to the cardiology unit, who then performed a number of routine tests, including a 36hr ECG (she had previously undergone a routine ECG some 10 days earlier). During her stay, the unit staff considered several options including the fitting of a pacemaker or a medicinal solution. Following a rigorous period of overnight monitoring, she was discharged on a Thursday afternoon. The Unit had determined that her heart was in good condition, taking into account her age, and that a medicinal solution was sufficient for her future care.
In discussions with both my mother and my brother (who was in attendance since I live/work overseas), it became clear that all(!) of the staff at the RSCH had gone above and beyond in ensuring she got the very best treatment throughout her stay and that she was provided with excellent care. As a former SRN, she has always had a keen awareness during hospital visits and this, I was assured, was among the very best. The feedback certainly helped to reassure me, monitoring her progress from afar, that she had been in good hands and I would like to extend to my grateful thanks to the Staff of the RSCH for their Service and Dedication. Her post-discharge paperwork, to be presented to her family doctor, was extremely clear and thorough, further demonstrating the professionalism of the staff at this teaching hospital. Well Done to All !
